Welcome to Attracting Butterflies in SoCal

This web site is designed to help those wishing to attract and support butterfly populations in general - Southern California (SoCal) specifically - offering information regarding local California butterfly species, how to attract them using various means, and what plants to add to your garden that will attract and support butterflies. Southern California is home to both the smallest and the largest species of butterfly residing in the U.S.

This information can be used in just about any region of the country. Things that specifically tie info to SoCal would be some of the butterfly species, and certain plants that will grow in milder climates such as found in here Southern California. There are quite a few butterfly species that are residents to large portions of the country, not only to SoCal. Two such species are Mourning Cloak and Monarch butterflies.

If you cannot find answers to your questions here or elsewhere on the web, or you need clarification on certain things, please don't hesitate to contact me. I by no means claim to be a butterfly specialist; I enjoy them and have researched the few that I'm familiar with. Plants are my forte, especially those that I've tended to as a landscaper, professional gardener, and as Parks Gardener (retired) for the City of Laguna Beach.
